God's Blueprint For our Success

(Note: This is an overview of the Gospel Minutes Vol. 69, No. 25, dated June 19, 2020. Written by Clem Thurman.)

God wants us to be happy, have peace and joy, and achieve the purpose for which He gave us life. God wants us to be successful and He gives us everything we need in order to make that happen.

The Bible, God's word (our blueprint), tells us that the Christian life is the only way to gain real success and the best part is that the world cannot take it from us!

 

Prayer

Prayer is the privilege we have to communicate with God, the Father, the Almighty Creator of the Universe. WOW!  And what's more, He wants us to come to Him in prayer.  It's mind-blowing when you think about it. Philippians 4:6 tells us to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God."

James has been called the "How-To" book for practical,Christian living. It's easy-to-understand language and relevant subject matter is as applicable today as it was the day it was written.

In this short book, James describes several qualities that identify a true and genuine faith, and how that faith works in the real world.

 

 

 

Doing the Lord’s Work

 

“Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus” Colossians 3:17

In spite of this admonition by the apostle Paul to the Colossian Christians, there seems to be a tendency among us today to divide our daily living into two categories: 1) every day living and work and 2) Christian living and doing the Lord’s work.

This was once expressed to me by a friend as each one having two hats: an every day hat to be worn all week and a religious one to be worn on Sundays and at other times when we are engaged in “church work”. These ideas seem foreign to what Paul wrote to the Colossians and to the Corinthian Christians:

                “…whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31

You Can't Exaggerate God!

 

 

Did you know that you can’t exaggerate God?  Think about that for a minute – you can embellish the size of the fish you caught last week, your bowling average, your position at work, how much money you make and a number of other things but NOT God. The all-powerful, all-knowing, all-present Creator of the universe is far bigger than we can even imagine but we can turn to scripture to gain understanding of our God.

Blessed Are The Merciful

Matthew 5:7

 

“Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy”, Jesus said. Mercy is described as refraining from inflicting harm or punishment under provocation, the disposition to exercise compassion or forgiveness, the compassionate treatment of the unfortunate or helpless, and showing compassion or kindness generally in dealing with others.

 

Those who practice these conditions of mercy toward others can expect to be recipients of the same blessings in their lives, as promised in the scripture quoted above.
