God's Blueprint For our Success
(Note: This is an overview of the Gospel Minutes Vol. 69, No. 25, dated June 19, 2020. Written by Clem Thurman.)
God wants us to be happy, have peace and joy, and achieve the purpose for which He gave us life. God wants us to be successful and He gives us everything we need in order to make that happen.
The Bible, God's word (our blueprint), tells us that the Christian life is the only way to gain real success and the best part is that the world cannot take it from us!
So what does this blueprint give us?
1. A Sense of Direction
Since man is made in God's image, we all have a spiritual appetite that seeks fulfillment. A sense of direction results from a proper attitude toward this earthly life and the next life. Wealth, status, and prestige can lead us in the wrong direction. Nothing in this life is worth losing our soul. Our goal, as Christians, is not centered in this life, so to gain success a Christian will "seek first His Kingdom, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."
2. Sense of Compassion
We must be involved in the lives of others. Jesus had compassion for those with whom He came into contact and so must we. The successful person doesn't just react to others, but acts on their needs and wants.
3. A Sense of Courage
A successful person has the courage to live by their convictions. They resist the easy way. They live by God's principles and stand up for the truth. Paul is a great example of courage!
4. A Sense of Love
"Let all you do be done in love" (1 Corinthians 16:14). Jesus commanded us to love others as He has loved us. This is easier said than done but as Christians we must have a deep love for God and this love will translate into a love for others (even those who are our enemies). Successful people love.
5. A Sense of Respect
The Christian has respect/reverence for God. he is our Creator and Father. He is eternal and omnipotent. The Christian also should have respect for himself and others as those made in God's image.
6. A Sense of Self-Confidence
Self-confidence, to a Christian, is not about ego or arrogance. It is faith in ourselves as children of God - whom God uses to accomplish His purpose. If God is working in us there can be NO failure! To be successful, we have a confident faith in God who works in us.
7. A Sense of Self-Acceptance
It is easy to put ourselves down and view ourselves as failures, but through the grace of God we have success! God sent His son to die for us and by His mercy we are saved. After we have repented and been buried in baptism, we are accepted as children of God. As long as we walk with Him the blood of Jesus covers our sins (1 john 1:7). Now that is success!!
God is the key to success in this life and the next. He gives us His word as a guide and blueprint to help us navigate this life so that we can spend the next with Him.
